Description

All special programming is cancelled due to inclement weather. Sea shanties and treats will not be available. The Lighthouse Visitor Center will be open normal hours from 10 am to 4:30 pm. The stairs leading down to the lighthouse will only be open if wind speeds are less than 40 mph. However, based on the current forecast (as of 10 am on Saturday, November 30), wind speeds are likely to be in excess of 40 mph. It is very unlikely that the lighthouse tower will open for ranger talks on Sunday, December 1.

Come kick off the holiday season with us at the Point Reyes Lighthouse!

Join us December 1, the 149th anniversary of the initial lighting of the Point Reyes Lighthouse, to kick off the holiday season and celebrate the completion of the recent restoration of the lighthouse. On Sunday at the Point Reyes Lighthouse, we will offer interpretive chats in the lighthouse between 10:30 am and 4 pm. Spanish interpretation of the lighthouse will be available from 1 pm to 2 pm for those interested. There will be a kids' lighthouse activity guide available and stories for kids! (If wind speeds exceed 40 mph, the stairs leading down to the lighthouse will be closed and the talks in the lighthouse will be cancelled.)

From 3 pm to 5 pm, join us for sea shanties outside the Lighthouse Visitor Center with the Fishwives Band from San Francisco! The Fishwives serve up raucous and irreverent songs of the sea and are the official Sea Forager band. Kirk "the singing fishmonger" Lombard (harmonica), Camilla Lombard (accordion), Nick Mitchell (big bass fiddle), and Cary Kirk (guitar) celebrate fishes big and small with rowdy sing-alongs. Put the sea wind in your hair and join in the fishy fun!

Also from 3 pm to 5 pm, sweet and warm treats will be provided by Point Reyes National Seashore Association outside the Lighthouse Visitor Center. (Please: do not take open food or drink within the visitor center.)

Come prepared for various grades of coastal weather (think layers and warmth) and bring a flashlight for walking back to the parking lot in the dark. Sunset on December 1 is at 4:53 pm PST.

Back at the Bear Valley Visitor Center, enjoy a commemorative lighthouse video highlighting the pre-and post-restoration.

The day's events will be held in collaboration with Point Reyes National Seashore Association.
