Hanford Lights for Peace
Manhattan Project National Historical Park will observe the 77th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japan in 1945 with a one-hour Lights for Peace program. The public is invited to the Lights for Peace program on August 9 starting at 8:00 pm PDT at Fingernail Stage in Howard Amon Park in Richland.
Lights for Peace aims to provide an opportunity to remember and reflect on these world-changing events of 77 years ago. The program will feature the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers singing “Hiraita, Hiraita” by composer Ken Hakoda and “This We Know” by composer Ron Jeffers. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk a path lit with the flickering lights of 200 candle luminarias in Howard Amon Park for a quiet contemplative experience. Some of the bags will feature messages of peace from the public.
