This week's program-
Present for Duty 300: Walking with the 27th Indiana at Chancellorsville
The volunteer regiment is perhaps the most widely recognized formation of the American Civil War. These units were raised to organize men into wartime service, with each proudly bearing the name of the state in which they were raised. Discover the story of one of these regiments, the Twenty Seventh Indiana Volunteer Infantry, from its formation through its service in the United States Army. Trace the footsteps of these Hoosiers through the May 1863 Battle of Chancellorsville and get a glimpse into the experience of a hard-fighting regiment and its members.
Meet at the Fairview parking area (Stop #10 on the Chancellorsville Battlefield Driving Tour). Park in the lot, or along the nearby road shoulders. The program will include about 3/4 to 1 mile of walking, partly along a roadway and partly along a grassy hilly walking trail. Participants should bring bug spray and water and wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.
In the event of inclement weather, check the park Facebook page for cancellations or updates. Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Battlefields National Military Park (facebook.com)
