Description

Join Professor Scott Burns as he discusses the mountain life zones of the Alps and how plants and animals adapt to living in these extreme climatic environments.  He will mostly focus on alpine flora, some plant physiology, and wild animals but will also mention some extinct and domesticated animals too.

Dr. Scott Burns is a geology professor at Portland State University.  He is in his 51st year of teaching this year.  His first five years of teaching were in the Swiss Alps at the American College of Switzerland from 1970-1975.  He taught many classes in geology, biology and alpine ecology there.  He took his student on over 40 field trips each year and during the summers was a nature guide at the Matterhorn.  His three talks will summarize the main things he taught everyone about the mountain ecology of the Swiss Alps.
