Before the Store: Living Off the Land in Big Bend

Big Bend National Park

  • Feb 4, 2024 at 9:00 AM
  • Free

People have lived in the Big Bend region for thousands of years. They survived here long before grocery stores, cars, and coolers existed… and certainly long before trucks and container ships transported food and supplies from all around the planet! How did they do it? If you were dropped off here for an episode of “Survivor - Big Bend” how well would you fare?! On this short 0.3 mi walk through what appears to be a stark land, we’ll explore some of the resources that have historically been utilized by people living off the land in the Big Bend. Meet at the Window View Trailhead in the Chisos Basin.
