National Public Lands Day

Do you like to be outside? Do you enjoy helping your community? Are you passionate about public lands? Do you like free stuff?!

Come celebrate National Public Lands Day with us! We will be cleaning up trash and debris at 4 boat ramps in the Big Thicket. Each event runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. 

Pick a location and click/tap on the link to register:

• Lumberton: Village Creek boat ramp on US-96
• Kountze: Village Creek boat ramp on TX-327
• Silsbee: Village Creek boat ramp on Baby Galvez Rd
• Evadale: Neches River boat ramp on US-96

Work will include:

• Picking up trash and debris in the parking lot and along the waterway
• Lifting trash bags (less than 50lbs)
• Using trash grabbers
• Assisting with other cleanup related tasks

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) provided but must be returned before departure:

• Gloves
• Safety glasses (optional)
• High visibility vests

NOTE: Volunteers are prohibited from handling sharps according to park policy. (Sharps include: needles, scalpels, broken glass, capillary tubes, dental wire, etc.)

There will be a required safety meeting at each cleanup site before work begins. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes, and to bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Park staff will supply all necessary equipment (gloves, bags, trash grabbers) for the events.

In recognition of their service, all who participate in any of the above events will receive a fee-free coupon which will allow them a “fee-free” day at any participating federal recreation site within the next calendar year.
