Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a special ranger-led program examining the legacy of Confederate Lieutenant General James Longstreet. The program will take place at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.

In 1939, Helen Dortch Longstreet commissioned an artist to paint a portrait of her late husband in an effort to defend his legacy against the Lost Cause movement. This program will explore that artwork and consider how Longstreet's reputation and memory were shaped in the years following the Civil War.
