Description
A garden scavenger hunt held on the last day of Pollinator Week (observed June 17-23) to celebrate pollinators and bring awareness to their health.
Pollinator Week is observed annually to celebrate and raise awareness about their conservation because of the important role that pollinators play within our ecosystems and food system.
If you’d like help identifying pollinators, you can join the Pollinator Week 2024- Pollinator Bioblitz · iNaturalist. They're looking for pictures of pollinators on flowers. By submitting yours, you’re a citizen scientist helping inform pollinator research!
When: Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 1:00PM-4:00PM
Where: Derby House Garden at Salem Maritime National Historic Site, 168 Derby St., Salem, MA 01970
Who: Anyone is welcome!
Activities: We will be hosting a pollinator themed scavenger hunt in the garden while tabling with information about the importance of pollinators and actions we can take to help them.
Attire: Wear clothing appropriate for the weather conditions of the day
Experience: None
Accessibility Information: With a handicap parking placard, accessible parking is free on any metered on-street parking space any municipal lot. Accessible parking spots are marked in blue throughout downtown. Visitor restrooms are wheelchair accessible and are located next to Waite and Peirce.
The brick path leading up to the garden is about 6 feet wide. The path has a stone obstruction in the center that’s approximately 9 inches wide and 4 inches in height. There is 3 feet of space to move through on each side of the stone. The garden path itself densely packed gravel.
There’s one picnic table nearby and several benches throughout the garden for those who prefer to sit or may have difficulty standing for long periods.
Bus: If you are using public transportation, the MBTA bus 455 stops at New Derby St opp Klop Alley within 0.4 miles of the garden. Another option is the Salem Skipper - a local, affordable rideshare service that can drop you off at the site.
