Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the "Move of the Millennium!"
In 1999 the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was moved over 2500 feet from its original position to a location.
Join us in celebrating this engineering feat that helped us open our eyes to what is possible. Learn from first-hand accounts about the science that supported the move, local perspectives, and the local economic boom that the move brought the local community.
The event begins at 9:30am with a formal speakers at the current Cape Hatteras Lighthouse site. Following the quest speakers, a panel discussion will allow visitors to connect with some of the people directly involved in this amazing feat. Following the panel, join park rangers and members of the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society for guided walks of the move path.
The event is free, and will happen rain or shine. Lighthouse climbs are free this day only.
