Parkway Beginnings (Doughton Park - Milepost 241)
In the mid-1930's as a Depression relief project, Doughton Park was one of the first areas of the Blue Ridge Parkway to be built, and it was done with the help of men in a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp located near Laurel Springs as well as by others hired by the Works Progress Administration.
Meet at the first comfort station in the Doughton Park Picnic area, at milepost 241. Hear stories about early Parkway planning and construction!
