Description

Join George Rogers Clark NHP, the Spirit of Vincennes, Inc, and the city of Vincennes in celebrating the 43rd Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous. The event takes place Memorial Day weekend (Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26) on the French Commons near George Rogers Clark National Historical Park. This year's events highlights the fife and drum as Tippecanoe Ancient Fife and Drum Corps celebrates their 50th anniversary.

Battlefield activities will include units of soldiers from the Northwest Territory Alliance (NWTA). Two battle enactments will be offered Saturday as well as two on Sunday. Tippecanoe Ancient Fife and Drum Corps will offer authentic music from the period. Artillery demonstrations will be provided throughout the weekend. A variety of 18th century crafts will be on display, including blacksmiths, silversmiths, spinners, weavers, and so much more.  A separate children's area will be available, where kids can make corn husk dolls, ride an ox, and play games from the 18th century.

Food booth vendors will serve up a taste of the era with buffalo burgers, pork chops, corn on the cob, creek fried potatoes, and so much more. Your thirst can be quenched with ice cold lemonade or sweet tea. Advance buttons will be on sale beginning May 1 at most banking institutions in Vincennes, Knox County Chamber of Commerce, the Visitors and Tourism Bureau, as well as George Rogers Clark NHP. They sell for $9 and will only be sold until the week before the event.

As a part of the Rendezvous, the annual Photo Contest will be held. For a $12 registration fee, participants have the opportunity to compete for a variety of prizes in a variety of categories, as photographers try to capture the "spirit" of the Rendezvous. There is also a special youth category for children 15 and under. Any questions about the contest can be directed to Park Ranger Jason Collins at 812-882-1776 x. 1207. The grand prize for the Best in Show photograph is $300 from the Vincennes Historical and Antiquarian Society.
