Description
The "Lecures on the Lawn" series at Rural Plains returns in 2024 with outdoor speakers discussing a variety of historical topics at the Shelton House at Rural Plains, 7273 Studley Road
Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
In late May 1864, the Shelton House became a target during the Battle of Totopotomoy Creek. Two Union officers stood on the roof of the home, waving flags and sending messages as they directed fire into the Confederate lines.
Who were these men and what did they experience while serving in the Signal Corps? How could a simple flag waving in the air send messages for miles?
Join us as we explore Civil War communication and the Signal Corps.
*In case of inclement weather, the lectures will take place at Enon United Methodist Church, 6156 Studley Road
