Ranger-led Program to View the Geminid Meteor Shower from Lilly Bluff Overlook

Every December the Geminid Meteor Shower provides a dazzling display of nature's holiday lights!  The Geminids are considered one of the best meteor showers of the year; with a potential peak rate of 120 meteors per hour on the night of December 13th.

Join our ranger on December 13th at 10:00 p.m. (ET) to enjoy this special event in an International Dark Sky Park from the Lilly Bluff Overlook, whch is a perfect location to lay out on your warmest blanket to look up and enjoy the celestial show.

In addition to viewing the Geminids, an NPS telescope will be available for viewing the planet Jupiter, the Orion Nebula, and the Pleiades Star Cluster which will all be prominent in the night sky.

***The event is subject to favorable clear sky weather conditions.  In the event of inclement weather or cloud cover, the event may be cancelled or moved to a different date.  Be sure to call the Obed Visitor Center before 5 p.m. on the day of the event to confirm the status of the event.***
