Children's Book Reading and Story Game Activity
Join the author for a reading of the children's picture book For a Soldier at Antietam at the Visitor Center followed by a short question & answer session. This book honors the courage of the soldiers buried at Antietam and invites readers of all ages to reflect on the importance of remembering their sacrifices.
Following the reading, families will be invited to drive to Antietam National Cemetery to walk through the iron gates, wave at the flag, see the stones, say “hello” to Old Simon, and visit the unknown soldier's grave. In addition, children will have the opportunity to create their own soldier story. The program, including the reading and National Cemetery visit, will last approximately one hour.
