Booms and Busts: Economics of the Great Lakes and the Manitou Passage
With rough and unpredictible waters that could cause ten million in damages and kill hundreds during a single storm, the Great Lakes made fortunes, broke fortunes, and claimed thousands of lives. This talk will explore the economic conditions that lead to the Great Lakes shipping boom, and continued to make Great Lakes shipping viable in the face of maritime disasters.
