Special Event

  • Free

Experience a phenomenon you canʻt find anywhere else in the United States—Lāhainā Noon! On Lāhainā Noon, the sun will rise to be directly overhead, causing shadows of vertical objects to disappear. As the only state in the subtropics, locations throughout Hawaiʻi experience Lāhainā Noon twice a year before and after the summer solstice.

Join park rangers and volunteers at the Haleakalā Visitor Center (9,740 feet) to learn more about this phenomoneon, observe the sun through a solar telescope, and see the event happen in real time!

The exact Lāhainā Noon will happen at 12:28 and  only last a few minutes. However, activities will be available throughout that morning and afternoon.
