Description
Become a Citizen Scientist! Join the City Nature Challenge At Hampton National Historic Site!
The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an friendly competition between cities across the globe to find and document plants and wildlife. CNC began as a competition between Los Angeles and San Francisco during the first ever Citizen Science Day in 2016. It grew to a national scope in 2017 and then further expanded to be international in 2018. Last year’s competition resulted in over 441,000 wildlife observations recorded by 17,000 people across the world. Hampton NHS has partnered with the National Aquarium and YOU to document local wildlife! Explore Hampton's scenic grounds and document wildlife sightings by taking photos and uploading your findings to the free iNaturalist app! Park Rangers and volunteers from the National Aquarium will be on site to guide and assist visitors.
Connect with the National Park Service and citizen scientists all over by tagging your social media posts with #CityNatureChallenge2019 and #FindYourPark!
Tours will begin at the Visitor Contact Station at 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm. Participation is free and open to the public.
