Description

Join us August 2nd to learn about and help collect dragonfly nymphs for the Dragonfly Mercury Project!

The Dragonfly Mercury Project (DMP) aims to track mercury levels across the U.S. to determine where and why mercury levels are high. This provides valuable information to researchers in areas such as public health, environmental policy, and land management. This project also allows parks to see the diversity of dragonflies in their waterways and is a great opportunity for anyone to learn about dragonflies, other aquatic macroinvertebrates, and aquatic ecology.

Nets, containers, and other collection materials will be provided. Make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and possibly a snack, as well as waterproof boots or sandals if you plan to get in the water. We expect it to be a hot day, so be prepared!

At Seip Earthworks, we will be sampling from Paint Creek at the back of the park near the observation deck.  We will meet before the event in the parking lot. The sampling site is approximately a one mile walk from the parking area. Parking is only accessible at the front of the site, off of U.S. Route 50.
