National Poetry Month – Haiku and Our Natural World

Rock Creek Park

Special Event
  • Apr 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM
  • Free

Join author and poet Maggie Dewane for a nature-inspired poetry workshop and reading. Beginning with a reading from her book, Haiku and Hope: 50 States of Climate Change — an exploration of places beloved and unfamiliar — Maggie will discuss the benefits of nature journaling and guide participants through using haiku poetry as a tool of nature-based creative expression. By the end of the workshop, participants will have written their own haiku drawing inspiration from their favorite places. The workshop invites participants to share their work, but it is not required.

This program takes place at Picnic Grove #6 on Beach Drive just north of Military Road.
