Description
Join us Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, Fredericksburg Branch, at 6:30 pm for a program about the Mine Run Campaign during the 160th anniversary of thisĀ little remembered chapter of the Civil War.
After the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, the U.S. and Confederate armies returned to northern Virginia. Maneuvering continued into the fall and General George Meade, commander of the Union Army of the Potomac, sought to attack his Confederate foe one last time before winter set in. The Mine Run Campaign, a series of marches and battles followed. Though largely forgotten today, the Mine Run Campaign again threw the Fredericksburg area into the chaos of warfare. Join park rangers for a lecture and discussion of what Mine Run meant during the Civil War and how we remember it today. This program will include a 60 minute lecture and 30 minute discussion.
The program will be held in the library's theater, located at 1201 Caroline St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
