Lecture Series: Dr. Lawrence Babits, "The Forgotten Battle Within a Battle: The North Flank at Guilford Courthouse"

Join Guilford Courthouse National Military Park for the second night of our 2024 Revolutionary Lecture Series. Dr. Lawrence E. Babits, author of the definitive account of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, will discuss the fight on the north flank of the battle. No authors of postwar accounts were in the units that fought on the north flank, so the only records are archaeological and sparse commentary about an important part of the engagement. The Virginia and Delaware soldiers who fought in anonymity played the key role in Greene's overall strategy of getting beat, and rising to fight again.

Dr. Babits is professor of maritime history and nautical archaeology at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. His book is a definitive account of the battle of Guilford Courthouse and he will discuss new interpretations about fighting on the north side of the battlefield.
