On November 24, 1863, Union General Joseph Hooker took a message from General Grant that, “you may take the mountain if at all practicable,” literally. The battle, being fought on the slope of the mountain, was given the nickname “The Battle Above the Clouds,” by the soldiers from down below in the valley and not the ones engaged in the fight. Join a park ranger for a one-hour long, ¼ mile walking tour of Point Park to learn what the fighting was really like on that day in November of 1863.

Fees

$10 entrance fee to Point Park for adults, ages 16 and older; children, 15 and younger, enter for free.
