Description
Join us at the Museum for this active, hands-on exploration of marine navigation!
Traditional marine navigation seems full of arcane techniques, but many of those techniques are based on simple things we do every day to find our way, and others are rooted in the history of science. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll learn where latitude and longitude came from and how sailors found their way along coasts in early European voyages. Participants will receive an inflatable globe to demonstrate concepts and walk through mock voyages to see early explorer methods in person.
This workshop is suitable for teens and adults. No prior navigational experience is necessary. Hosted by USS Constitution Museum Public Historian Carl Herzog.
Want to explore more advanced topics? Join us for our next workshop on Celestial Navigation in January!
