Description

Learn to fish with us and earn your Junior Angler badge at the Reedville Fishermen's Museum!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish or crab, but were unsure how to get started? Are you an experienced angler interested in learning more about the history of fishing in the Chesapeake Bay? Regardless of your age or experience level, we invite all those with a love of the water out for a fun day of fishing.

The Reedville Fishermen's Museum tells the story of the commercial fishing industry that developed in the late 19th century. The museum is home to several historic boats, including a replica of the shallop used by John Smith and his crew in their 1608 voyages in the Chesapeake! Visitors will be delighted by the museum's many intricate scale models of the town's unique industry and culture.

Participants are invited to try their hand at fishing and crabbing with the help of our experienced anglers. They can then choose to participate in the Junior Angler program and earn a special Junior Ranger badge. After making your catch out on the dock, head over to our Park Ranger to get your activity book and learn about the many ways that fishing is important in the Chesapeake Bay's Native American, colonial and contemporary cultures.

Information about the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and its partners will also be available, including additional Junior Ranger programs, maps and brochures, and more.

All materials and equipment provided.
