Description

Dark Sky for the Fourth of July!

Let's watch the natural firework show - through our telescopes!

The events will take place in and around the Kiva Lounge at Defiance House Lodge in Bullfrog, UT on Thurssday, July 4th and Friday, July 5, 2024.

6:00 to 8:00 PM
Informal table presentations by rangers near Defiance House Lodge lobby entrance

8:00 to 9:00 PM
Astronomy talks by Dr. George Rhee, UNLV Astronomy Professor in Kiva Lounge

9:00 to 11:00 PM
Telescope Viewing. Join a tour of the constellations and see different objects in the night sky, including planets, stars, and galazies. It's a New Moon, so conditions should be perfect for dark sky viewing.

We will try to maintain our night vision by only using red lights around the scopes. Please do not use flashlights, or laser pointers in the area. Dr. Grigg will have a laser pointer that he may use to point out objects that are visible through our scopes. Please DO bring your own binoculars as there are many objects visible with binoculars.

For your safety: While telescope viewing, it will be dark. You may not be able to see where you step, so tread carefully. Be aware of telescope tripods so you do not trip.

Humans 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Control your children around the telescopes, and follow Dr. Rhee's and the Park Ranger's instructions to get children up to the scopes.

Leave your pets in the car, or leashed at some distance.

This activity is weather dependent and may be canceled in the event of high winds, rain, or an unclear sky.

Reservation or Registration: No
