Description
"Indigenous Peoples Day" is an opportunity to study historical truths about colonialism and oppression in the Americas. It is also a chance to celebrate resistance to oppression, new voices and perspectives in writing our shared history, and the power of community.
At Alcatraz, we celebrate the Occupation of All Tribes, which took place 1969-1971. The festivity consists of a sunrise ceremony from roughly 5 A.M. to 9 A.M. Tickets are available for a boat ride to the island at this time, but there will be no cell house access or audio tours until the ceremony is over.
