As the 2nd Day of the Battle of Shiloh began to wind down, General Beauregard ordered the retreat of the Confederate Army. In order to prevent the retreat from becoming a rout, General Breckinridge was ordered to establish a force strong enough to perform a rear-guard action and buy valuable time for the Army’s retreat. Join Park Ranger Matt McMillian as he discusses the plan and retraces the movement of the rear-guard action of the Confederate Army at Shiloh including the actions at Fallen Timbers.
