Description

The celebration is about to begin! Join the Fort Stanwix staff and volunteers for a full day of Fourth of July fun! Here’s just a bit of what's planned for your holiday visit to the park:

· At 9:15 am and 4 pm, discover how the objects in the museum exhibits help to tell the story of United States independence.

· At 10 am and 2 pm, take a ranger guided walk from the visitor center to the fort and hear the story of the “fort that never surrendered”.

· At 10:45 am and 1 pm, hear the words of Thomas Jefferson and the Second Continental Congress as we  read the Declaration of Independence.

· A formal weapons salute to independence will happen at 11 am and 3 pm. Join the soldiers as they give a hearty “Huzzah!” to George Washington, the Continental Congress, and the 13 United States.

· Need a midday break? Pack a picnic basket and lawn chairs or blanket, and enjoy lunch on the lawn! We will have 18th century toys to play with, too. (Weather permitting, of course!)

· At 1:15 (just after the Declaration reading), show your patriotic spirit and join the soldiers of the 3rd NY Regiment as they parade from the west lawn into the fort.

Activities will continue throughout the day! Stop into the visitor center to get your Independence Day Discovery Book. In the fort, make a soldier’s hat, and sign an enlistment form for the Continental Army. Our soldiers have a few surprises up the sleeves of our regimental coats, too, so come explore and have some patriotic fun!
