“It’s Cool Down Here at the River Jordan”
Yesterday’s post highlighted a New Orleans Voodoo observance begun by Madame Marie Laveau back in the 1830’s. Today, in penance for detouring onto that dark side, allow me to venture back into the light with an astounding aspect of the Holy Roman Catholic Church. In today’s “Yale Climate Connections” post, the “YCC” team suggests that “Holy Mother the Church” could significantly contribute to the salvation of our own Mother Earth!
The audio blog is titled “The Catholic Church’s vast landholdings could help protect the climate: For example, by conserving forest land that can absorb and store carbon pollution.” In it they estimate that, although the HRCC hasn’t updated their holdings maps since “Holy Roman Empire” days, the worldwide churches, monasteries, farms and forests controlled by the Vatican comes to approximately 177 million acres! (Our National Park system’s approximately 400 sites cover 84. 6 million acres.) And, presently, an organization called “Goodlands” is working with the Church in pursuance of environmental enhancement. What environmentalist Parkie wouldn’t support that?
So, for my mea culpa, today, I’ll play “It’s Cool Down Here…”, a song about salvation of any sort. Besides, as our Planet seems to be running a temperature this Summer, it is comforting to hear “Brother Bruce” croon about how cool it is down at the river of salvation.
