Description

Fraley Field: The Bloody Battle Begins

Dates: May 7 & 21
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Parking: Meet at the Visitor Center. We will drive to the starting point of the hike. 
Distance: 3.5 miles roundtrip
Terrain: Moderate
 

Join Ranger Timothy Arnold on a two-hour battlefield hike which will introduce visitors to the events surrounding the opening shots of the battle. This hike will cover the approach routes of the Union and Confederate soldiers toward Fraley Field, whose landscape witnessed the first exchange of hostilities and the beginning of the epic Battle of Shiloh. It will also discuss the events as they unfolded after the opening fighting at Fraley Field as General Prentiss' Union troops engage in a fighting withdrawal towards their camps.
