Please arrive at the Carlsbad Cavern visitor center no later than 5:45 PM to attend the performance.

Description

On December 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21 from 6 pm to 8 pm, Carlsbad Caverns National Park will offer visitors an opportunity to experience the wonders of Carlsbad Cavern and its colorful history. Dressed in historic costumes, park staff will guide visitors on a lantern-lit tour in the Big Room area of the cavern.

This annual tradition gives visitors the chance to “meet” some of the men and women who helped weave the fabric of this national park. The tour will feature a re-creation of the historic "Rock of Ages Ceremony," which was regularly conducted in the Big Room from 1928 to 1944. During this portion of the tour, visitors will experience a “black out,” being immersed in total darkness, as voices fill the cavern singing the hymn “The Rock of Ages.”

Please note that photography is not allowed on this special guided tour.

Reservations are required and limited to 25 people per tour. Tickets can be purchased beginning November 24 by calling 575-236-1375 or at the park’s visitor center ticket desk, open daily (except Thanksgiving Day) 8 am–3:15 pm.
