165th Battle Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony and Programs

A Civil War color guard, the playing of “Taps” and remarks by guest speakers and battlefield staff will help commemorate the sacrifice of Union and Southern soldiers who lost their lives in the battle. The program is expected to last approximately one hour.

Following the program, a reception hosted by the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation will be held in the Visitor Center where light refreshments will be served.

Other activities that day will include:
  • The original bed from the Ray House on which the body of Union commander Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon was placed, now on exhibit in the Visitor Center, will be reunited with the coverlet that covered the general’s body.
  • The historic Ray House will be open for tours following the ceremony until 4 p.m.
