RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR THESE PROGRAMS.

Hear the roar of muskets and the booming of cannon 159 years after those sounds engulfed the battlefield. Park rangers will present talks that explore the December 31, 1862 experiences of soldiers during some of the most important moments of the Battle of Stones River. These program will include infantry and artillery demonstrations performed by volunteers in blue and gray.

Living History Program Schedule

10 AM - Rising Tide: At dawn on December 31, 1862, thousands of Confederate soldiers plunged forward smashing the Right Wing of the Union Army.

11 AM - The Slaughter Pen: Union resistance to the Confederate tide reached its peak in the rocks and trees near the Wilkinson Pike buying time for the Army of the Cumberland to regroup.

1 PM - Hell's Half Acre: Col. William B. Hazen's brigade stood its ground against four Confederate attacks providing the anchor for a new Union line defending the Nashville Pike.

2 PM - Fighting in the Cedars: Unseen clashes in the dark cedar woods set the stage for the final struggle for the Nashville Pike on December 31, 1862.

3 PM - The Line That Wouldn't Break: As daylight fades, Confederates launch wave after wave against the line of blue defending the Union army's lifeline, the Nashville Pike.

Reservations are required. Group sizes limited to 75 participants. Reservations may be made on the day of the program at the visitor center desk.
