Description
Capitol Reef National Park is planting fruit trees to rehabilitate the historic Fruita orchards and ensure they are available for visitors to use into the future! We will be planting fruit trees in the Cook Orchard, located along Utah Highway 24 across the street from the Fruita Schoolhouse. We will plant sweet and sour cherries on March 30th and April 6th. On April 12th we will plant several heirloom apple varieties. Volunteers should bring gloves, work-type boots and clothing, sun protection, food and water. Shovels and other tools for planting will be provided.
Service project will begin at 9am with an orientation. Afterwards, volunteers and park employees will split into small groups to start planting. Volunteers are asked to park at the Fruita Schoolhouse, 0.8 mile east of the Capitol Reef visitor center along Utah Highway 24. Volunteers will be signed up as single-day volunteers with the National Park Service.
