Towards the end of the 6-month winter encampment, the Continental Army maintained a constant state of readiness as rumors of a potential British evacuation from Philadelphia stirred across Valley Forge.  On June 19, 1778, the last of General George Washington’s troops marched out, thus beginning their pursuit of the British who had just left Philadelphia.

The Continental Army was larger, stronger, and more unified than ever before.
