Description
Enjoy a free performance by the acclaimed Aurea Ensemble inside Slater Mill.
Aurea members are equally inspired by each other’s artistry and seek to create a new genre of performance, melding words, and music thematically in a highly collaborative spirit.
The program “New and Dangerous Opinions of Roger Williams" fuses writings of Roger Williams and Native American poetry, underscored by music of Handel, Orlando di Lasso, and Rhode Island’s own Chris Turner, and John Milton (whose son, the famous poet of the same name, was a friend and philosophical inspiration to Roger Williams.) This lively program, set in the dramatic political and philosophical fray of colonial RI, introduces audiences to the strong-minded iconoclast, Roger Williams and his deep respect for Native American culture.
Presented with special thanks to Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park, Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, and the Pawtucket Arts Festival.
