Description
Come join the Overmountain Victory NHT rangers, Tennessee State Park rangers, and the Overmountain Victory Trail Association (OVTA) at the Watauga River!
This event will commemorate the 243rd anniversary of when Overmountain patriots from across the frontier gathered at Sycamore Shoals to begin their journey up and over the Blue Ridge Mountains to pursue British Major Patrick Ferguson.
NPS Ranger William will provide a short river-side talk at 1:30pm at the crossing point, discussing what had led up to that point in the American Revolution.
At 2pm, the OVTA will ford across the Watauga River. At the reconstructed fort, they will then present their dramatic storytelling about the journey to Kings Mountain.
Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park will be open that day from 9am to 4:00pm to showcase their great exhibits about their local history!
