Shiloh Ranger to Lead Two Hikes in the Hornet's Nest

This April, Shiloh National Military Park will host a two-part hiking series on the bloody fighting that took place in the Hornets’ Nest.

The first hike will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Join Park Ranger Timothy Arnold to learn about the severe fighting in the famed “Hornets’ Nest” of Shiloh. This hike will focus on the Confederate attacks including, units involved, weapons used, geography and terrain, as well as the truth versus the myth of the life and death struggle in this area.

Learn about the Confederate attacks led by Colonel Randall Gibson’s Brigade and others and the fate of each officer. Meet Ranger Arnold at Tour Stop #10, at 10:00 a.m.

The second hike in the series will also meet at 10:00 a.m. at Tour Stop #10 on Saturday, April 27, 2024. This hike will focus on the strong Union line that defended the “Sunken Road" led by Generals W.H.L. Wallace and Benjamin Prentiss.

To register for one or both hikes please call the Shiloh Visitor Center at 731-689-5696. Both hikes will be about two-miles in distance over moderate terrain. All participants should wear footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather and terrain. Hikers are also encouraged to bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and water.
