Description
Special Evening Virtual Program
As the nation’s 250th anniversary approaches (in 2026), now is an opportune time to take a fresh look at the Maryland home of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Stone.
Material and written records inform each other about the private lives of one of Charles County’s native-born elite families who navigated a war against Great Britain and its financial aftermath. Haberdeventure’s history is also part of a larger story of growth in Maryland’s free black population in the later eighteenth century.
You are invited to join Thomas Stone National Historic Site (NHS), the National Park Service, and the Organization of American Historians for a virtual presentation on March 16th at 6pm by Dr. Amy Speckart, author of this forthcoming Historic Resource Study for Thomas Stone NHS, New Perspectives on Harberdeventure Plantation in Charles County, Maryland.
