Join James A. Garfield NHS staff and volunteers at Mentor Public Library on the second Wednesday of each month for a new talk on “Leaders & Legacies of the Civil War Era”! Andrew Johnson was a southern Democrat who stayed loyal to the Union during the Civil War, and that got him placed on President Abraham Lincoln’s re-election ticket in 1864. After Lincoln’s assassination, Johnson became the 17th President of the United States. Learn more about the life, career, and legacy of this complicated figure in American history.
