This program is free and open to the public.

Join us for this special presentation by the Silver Swan Ragtime Interpreters as part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve’s commemoration of the Battle of New Orleans. The Silver Swan Ragtime Interpreters present "1812—A March Through Musical History" that will highlight the musical form of the military march, it's relevance to the war of 1812, earlier 18th century French and Spanish marches and their later development in the Latin American world and in the US.  The musicians will be accompaniued by 2 dancers who will examine ways in which the march became part of ballroom and social dance culture all the way up to the turn of the 20th century, blending in new ideas from African American music, and ending with a trad jazz classic from New Orleans.
