Description
In many ways the job of a boardinghouse keeper was not in step with the ideals of the time, which limited opportunities for women in business and certainly in management. In a system of "corporate paternalism," the keeper had to have the qualities of a "mother-figure." Yet to be successful (and profitable) she had to have a strong business sense. In this talk, join a ranger to explore the daily life of a boardinghouse keeper and look at her use of professional methods of managing a household and keeping accurate records. This event is part of Lowell Women's Week.
