Description

Whose stories go down in history? Why are some stories told and others forgotten?

To celebrate Women's History Month, explore the untold stories of the women who lived and worked at Fort Washington. Learn about the laundresses of the 19th century, the first women paid by the US military. Travel through time to WWII, when the 67th Women's Army Corps was stationed at Fort Washington to assist with the Adjutant's General School.

Staff and volunteers will dress in historic clothing to chat about these historic women. Visitors will be able to try their hand at doing laundry Civil-War style and to examine the suitcase of a member of the WACs.

At 11:00 and 2:00, join a Ranger on a tour of the fort and walk in the footsteps of these often forgotten women.
