What can decades of studying a single rare plant teach us about conservation? Join Aspen Workman (Doctoral Researcher, Martin Luther University, Halle-Wittenberg, Germany) for a talk that explores ongoing ecological research and recent population genetics work on Tidestrom’s lupine (Lupinus tidestromii), a rare coastal dune species found primarily within Point Reyes National Seashore. More than 90% of all known plants occur within the park, making Point Reyes central to the species’ future. Through collaboration between park staff and researchers, long-term monitoring has helped guide restoration and management decisions, including a new reintroduction effort aimed at restoring the species to parts of the park where it has declined.
