Working the Water Canal Boat Tour


Who dug the canals? Who laid the stone walls? Who operated the locks and gates? Discover the human stories of the workers who built and operated Lowell's remarkable waterpower system. Find out who is still "working the water" today.

90 minute canal boat tours are offered Saturday-Sunday at 11 a.m., 12 noon, and 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.recreation.gov or using the reservations phone line (877) 444-6777. Online ticket sales close the day before the tour. Day-of tickets will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis at the Visitor Center.

Plan to arrive at the Visitor Center (246 Market Street) 15 minutes before your program to check in. The tour includes a good amount of walking over uneven surfaces. Food is not allowed on tour boats. Water is allowed and a filling station is available in the Visitor Center.

Lowell National Historical Park visitors may park at the Hamilton Canal Innovation District (HCID) parking garage at 350 Dutton Street. Parking in this garage is available to National Park visitors at no cost provided they obtain a valid parking voucher at the Visitor Center.

Adults $13.00; Seniors (62+) $11.00; Students (with ID) & Youth (6-16) $9.00, Children under 6 free.
