Description
On Saturday, July 29, Shiloh National Military Park will be offering a special program at the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center covering the two-day October 1862, Battle of Corinth. Program participants will be part of a car caravan tour tracing the footsteps of the 81st Ohio Infantry Regiment as they fought against overwhelming numbers of Confederates on October 3, 1862, and engaged with the enemy again at Battery Powell on October 4, 1862.
During this two-hour car caravan tour of historic sites in and around Corinth, Mississippi, visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the conditions soldiers fought under in October 1862, why commanding officers made the decisions that they did, and how the courage and steadfast determination exhibited by the enlisted men shaped the course of this battle.
Pre-registration is required to participate by calling the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center at (662) 287-9273 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm any day of the week. Program participants should dress in comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing, be prepared to walk up to half a mile on uneven terrain, and to bring water, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
The tour will begin at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 29, at the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center, located at 501 W Linden, St in Corinth, MS.
