Description

Lyncia Begay - Diné Author and Community Activist

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday — December 17, 18, 19, 2024: 9 am to 4 pm each day.

  • Lyncia Begay crafts powerful nonfiction exploring the impacts of colonization through prose, poetry, and story. Her forthcoming essay, The Glittering World (in Science of Story), challenges readers to reimagine their relationship with water amidst the realities of the sixth extinction.

Lyncia also leads community projects focused on cultural revitalization and Indigenous education. A Northern Arizona University Master’s graduate in Creative Writing, her work bridges creativity and activism.

Lyncia supports Speak for the Peaks (SFTP)—an art initiative confronting the destruction of the sacred San Francisco Peaks, desecrated by fake snow made from reclaimed sewage. SFTP highlights the connection between environmental justice and collective wellness, urging us to act in the face of global climate crises.

  • The Cultural Demonstration program provides an opportunity for park visitors and community members to interact with tribal artisans from Grand Canyon's traditionally associated tribes - and for them to share their history and crafts, along with the skills, knowledge, and efforts involved in creating their craft and art.
  • This series is made possible with grants from Grand Canyon Conservancy.
