Description
Nighthawks over Minute Man National Historical Park
Friday September 2, 5:30-7:30 PM
Meeting place: Brooks Village parking lot
If you look up at the dusk sky in late August or early September, you might be surprised to see an unusual bird with a distinctive striped wing and a bat-like flight. Common Nighthawks are not true hawks but rather members of the Nightjar family along with the Eastern Whip-Poor-Will. They migrate through eastern Massachusetts each fall. Join us for a one-mile walk on graded paths and boardwalk to look for these fascinating birds. Along the way, we will observe locally nesting species like Baltimore Oriole, Cedar Waxwing, and possibly some early fall migrants. Insect repellent and long pants are recommended. This walk is also sponsored by the Brookline Bird Club. Suitable for ages 12+.
In case of rain, please contact Kiah Walker at kiah_walker@nps.gov.
