Description

George Washington Carver National Monument will host a special hike on Saturday, June 1st on National Trails Day, the country’s largest celebration of trails.

Visitors will learn about National Park Service trails, regional and local trails, hiking safety, and well-being. Beginning at 8:00 a.m. park staff and VIPs will lead a three-mile hike around the park boundary, with shorter hike options available. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for one shallow water crossing during this moderate boundary hike. Bring a refillable water bottle, and wear sun protection and insect repellent.

In addition, a ranger-guided tour of the one-mile Carver trail begins at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., or you may self-guide on the trail at your own pace. Explore the park trails, get behind-the-scenes information, and learn how this 240-acre place impacted George Washington Carver. Meet at the flagpole at 8:00 a.m. for a safety briefing. The hike will be completed before noon. National Trails Day is an annual event hosted by the American Hiking Society, which celebrates not only national scenic and historic trails, but all trails on public lands.
