Description

The Washington's Birthday celebration at Valley Forge is back!

After an online event in 2021, we will celebrate onsite this year! The event may be smaller than in years past, but it's still a great opportunity for fun and learning.

Visit the Visitor Center on Monday, February 21st, 10am-3pm, and look for the following:

Meet the Washingtons! George and Martha will be present to welcome visitors to Valley Forge and share personal recollections of the encampment and their life together. Courtesy of Historic Philadelphia, Inc.

Have a Birthday Cupcake! Volunteers will be distributing free cupcakes at the pavilion just outside the Visitor Center. Courtesy of the faculty and students of the Culinary School at Montgomery County Community College. (PLEASE NOTE: because of continuing mask mandates please eat the cupcakes outside, or keep them in the container if you go back into the Visitor Center).

George Washington had little room for celebration in February 1778 with his army on the brink of dissolution. Today, in hindsight, we can recognize the importance of this time and the future successes Washington and his men would achieve. Struggles continue, and always will, but on this day, in this small way, we can reflect on where we’ve been, and how far we’ve come.
